NextDoor is Your Neighborhood Social Media Platform:

Recently while walking our dog about the Peninsula Neighborhood, my wife found a stray dog.  She brought him home, and we immediately posted his picture on Nextdoor and asked if anyone could identify him.  Within an hour, a neighbor of the dog’s owner identified him, and soon, dog and owner were reunited.

All Peninsula residents are encouraged to use this service.  It’s a good way to keep up on events scheduled in the neighborhood and post concerns, questions and observations.  Lost your car keys?  Ask if anyone has picked them up.  Need recommendations for babysitters, painters, or house cleaning services?  Ask for advice on Nextdoor.

Nextdoor is a private social networking service.  It’s purpose is to easily connect you with residents in your neighborhood and, optionally, nearby neighborhoods.  When you post on Nextdoor, you can decide if your post goes to Peninsula residents only or nearby neighborhoods as well.

Security is a concern with social networks.  Nextdoor is a private network.  To be admitted, you must be invited by a current Nextdoor user.  That user will give your contact information to Nextdoor, and you will receive the necessary instructions in your email.  Once you are a member of Nextdoor, you will receive postings in your email.  To keep the network secure, according to the Nextdoor website:

Every neighbor has to verify their address

Every neighbor signs in with their real name. Just like in person

Your website is protected by password and encrypted by HTTPS

We never share your info with advertisers

Currently, the Peninsula Neighborhood Nextdoor network includes 278 members in 187 households.  Here is a link to the Peninsula Neighborhood Nextdoor network:
